Melty Ice Cream Cone

Hello all! I need to get better about updating the blog more regularly!

I wanted to share this sweet treat with everyone here! I wrote this pattern a while back and never got around to posting it. I hope you enjoy!

This little melty cone is super chipper about being dropped! Satisfy your sweet tooth with a parade of these little guys!

Materials Needed:

5mm hook

10mm safety eyes (2)

Polyfil stuffing

Rice/bean pouch for weight (optional)*

Yarn (I used Red Heart in Cafe Latte, Red Heart with Love in Black and Minty, and I Love This Yarn! in Mango)

Tapestry needle

Stitch marker

* To make a rice/bean pouch, sew two 3×3 inch squares of fabric (I use white fabric) together to create a pocket. Leave a little gap so you can add the rice/beans, then sew it closed once it’s filled. I really recommend adding one to this project so it won’t tip over!

Abbreviations

Ch: chain

Sc: single crochet

St: stitch

Inc: increase (put two sc in one st)

Dec: decrease (sc two st together)

**: repeat from * to * until end of row

Sl st: slip stitch

Ice Cream Body

With hook, ch 2 in your main color.

Round 1: 6 sc in first of ch 2.(6)

Round 2: inc in each stitch.(12)(Amigurumi is worked in a spiral – no sl st to close each round! I find it’s helpful to put my stitch marker in the first stitch in the round, so I know where each round starts once I work all the way around.)

Round 3: *sc, inc* (18)

Round 4: *2sc, inc* (24)

Round 5: *3sc, inc* (30)

Round 6: *4sc, inc* (36)

Round 7: *5sc, inc* (42)

Round 8 – 18: sc all st

Round 19:*5sc, dec* (36)

Round 20: sc in back loops of each st (36)

Round 21: *4sc, dec* (30)

Round 22: *3sc, dec* (24)

Round 23: *2sc, dec* (18)

At this point, attach safety eyes and embroider mouth on to body. I attach my eyes 5 rows above the line the front loops make on the body, and about 6 stitches apart.

Stuff firmly. After stuffing, add rice pouch to keep your ice cream from tipping! I put mine flat against the opening.

Round 24: *sc, dec* (12)

Round 25: dec in all st (6)

Bind off, leaving a long tail. Using tapestry needle, sew through remaining 6 st and pull tightly to cinch closed. Tie a knot, and weave in tail.

Ruffle

Tie on main color to one of the front loops (there should be a row that stands off towards the bottom of the ice cream body).

Round  1: *3sc in one st, sl st in one st* until end of row. Sl st to first sc. Bind off, and weave in tail.

Cone

With hook, ch 2

Round 1: 6 sc in first ch

Round 2: sc in each st (6)

Round 3: inc in each st (12)

Round 4-6: sc in each st (12)

Round 7: *2sc, inc* (18)

Round 8-10: sc in all st (18)

Bind off, leaving long tail for sewing. Stuff cone firmly, but not so firm that it “rounds” out – you still want it to taper nicely! Using tail and tapestry needle, sew the cone to the top of the body; I like my cone to be askew and off to one side, but that’s my own preference! Tie knot, and weave in tail.

Cone Rim

With hook, ch approx. 24 st (however many it takes to wrap around the base of the cone without any overlap!). Bind off, leaving long tail for sewing. Wrap the strand of the ch around the base of the cone, taking care that the right side of the ch is facing out! Using tail and tapestry needle, tack ch down so that it hides the stitches from when you attached the cone to the body.
