So, I know I’m 13 days off, but I wanted to start a Granny Square a Day project this year! Next winter, when I have a huge 353 square blanket, I’ll be really warm! Now, I tried this before, but only got a month or so into the blanket before I gave up. Now I have a lovely, unfinished… wall tapestry?
Well, whatever it is, it’s tiny! So I’m starting over. I’m going to use white as the border on all of my granny squares (hexagons, really) because I think it looks so pretty; like colorful flowers popping up in the snow. These are the colors I’m thinking about using:
I have this thing for color palettes. I also photograph all of my yarn colors, so I can mix and match them without getting them all out. The less digging through my stash I do, the cleaner my room stays.
Anyway, I got this FABULOUS Hexagon Granny Square Pattern from a blog called Attic24 – you should definitely check it out, and not just for this pattern. She’s got some great stuff over there! Here’s the link to her pattern:

If you’re a visual learner, she includes all of these fantastic pictures and goes really in depth on how to make these granny squares. However, when it comes to a crochet pattern, I prefer everything to be written out, or a crochet chart. I guess I like to see everything laid out in front of me. So I went ahead and transcribed Attic24’s tutorial into a pattern – feel free to use it, too!
Hexagon Granny Square Pattern
Pattern transcribed from Attic 24 ( I do not own this pattern in any way!)
Size 4 mm hook
Abbreviations:
sl: slip stitch
ch: chain
dc: double crochet (UK treble crochet)
**: repeat
Bobble stitch: Yarn over, insert hook through next stitch, yarn over, draw yarn back through stitch (3 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through 2 loops (2 loops on hook). Then yarn over and insert hook through SAME STITCH, yarn over, hook back through stitch (4 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through 2 loops (3 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through all 3 loops.
ch 4 and join to form ring
Row 1: Ch 3, 11 dc in ring, sl st to top of ch 3 to close. Bind off.
Row 2: Join new color. Ch 2, dc in same st, ch 1, *bobble st in next st, ch 1* till end of row (12 bobbles total). Sl st to top of ch 2. Bind off.
Row 3: Join new color in ch 1 gap between bobbles. Ch 3, 2 dc, ch 1, * 3dc in ch 1 gap b/t bobbles* till end of row (12 clusters total). Sl to top of ch 1. Bind off.
Row 4: Join new color in ch 1 gap b/t dc clusters. *Ch 3, sl st to ch 1 b/t clusters* till end of row. Sl st to first ch.
Row 5: In same color, sl st under ch 3 gap, ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in gap. * In next gap, 3 dc in next ch 3. In next gap, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc* till end of row. Sl st to top of ch 3. Bind off to finish.
