Mini Pumpkin Amigurumi

A very long time ago, I shared my Pumpkin Amigurumi pattern to my blog, and year after year it continues to be one of my more popular posts – rise up, fellow spooky season enjoyers! I wanted to share a mini version of my pumpkin pattern, too. It makes a cute squishy for your desk, looks nice mixed in with other fall themed decorations, and even works great for garlands (just make a few and string them up together on some twine!).

This is also an excellent pattern for someone new to crocheting amigurumi. It’s basically just a sphere with a little sewing and the stem and leaf are very easy to make, too. Make a few for spooky season!

YouTube Pattern Video

Below you’ll find the pattern video. I’ve very recently started using YouTube’s β€œChapters” feature to sort each individual instruction (rounds, sewing, sections, etc.) into a time stamped section. You should be able to see the chapters in the timeline/seek bar of the video below, but if you click over to YouTube, you’ll be able to pull the chapters up and move more easily between them.

As always, with the pattern write-up here on my blog, the written instructions are β€œbare bones” – they’re designed to work hand-in-hand with the video tutorial. With the addition of the chapters feature, it’s even easier to navigate the pattern. For example, if you’re struggling with Rnd 3 of the body, you can click directly on the chapter β€œRnd 3” and crochet it along with me.

Materials

✩ Worsted weight yarn in orange, brown, and green, or your choice of weight and color – just remember to size hooks and accessories accordingly.

✩ 5mm crochet hook (or whatever size you need, based on the weight of yarn you choose – I work pretty tightly so size up to a 5mm hook with worsted weight yarn)

✩ Your standard amigurumi items: tapestry/yarn needle(s), stitch marker, scissors, stuffing

Pattern Notes

All of my patterns are written with US terminology.

As with most amigurumi projects, your work will be formed by crocheting in a continuous spiral, with a stitch marker marking the beginning of each round. Any other construction style will be indicated in the pattern!

Abbreviations

These are my most commonly used abbreviations. Any special stitches or exceptions will be denoted in the pattern!

rnd(s)round(s)
scsingle crochet
MRmagic ring
( )number of stitches at the end of each round
* *repeat instructions, in the order they appear, the indicated amount of times
incincrease (typically single crochet – otherwise denoted)
BLOwork in the back loop only
FLOwork in the front loop only
slp stslip stitch
dcdouble crochet

Pattern

Pumpkin

With orange yarn, form MR. I have a great video tutorial (for both right and left handed crocheters!) if you need a refresher.

Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR (6)

Rnd 2: *inc * x 6 (12)

Rnd 3: *1 sc, inc* x 6 (18)

Rnd 4: *2 sc, inc* x 6 (24)

Rnd 5-9: sc in each st around [5 rnds total]

Rnd 10: *2 sc, dec* x 6 (18)

Rnd 11: *1 sc, dec* x 6 (12)

Add stuffing here – don’t over-stuff, or it will be hard to add the shaping later!

Rnd 12: *dec* x 6 (6)

Fasten off by slp stitching to first decrease, then cut a looooooooooong tail to sew with. We’re talking at least 24 inches of tail! Pull tail through this slp st and tighten. Thread tail through a tapestry needle and use it to sew through each FLO from Rnd 12. Pull tail tightly to cinch last rnd closed, then tie a surface knot.

Sew tail up through center of cinched round and through the MR round where we began, then send long straight stitches down around the outside of the pumpkin to create the wedges. I highly recommend watching the video here, to get a better idea of how to sew these wedges.

After sewing wedges, tie a knot and weave remaining tail in. Trim excess.

Leaf

With green yarn, ch 5 sts.

In 2nd ch from hook, slp st. Then, 1 sc in next st, 1 sc and 1 hdc in next st. In last st, place 3 hdc, swinging around the bottom of the ch. Working back up the other side, place 1 hdc and 1 sc in next st, 1 sc, then slp st. Sc sides of leaf together by working 1 sc st in the FLO of the first slp st and the ch we skipped over when we started. Then, slp st down center of leaf in each ch and in the 2nd hdc at the bottom of the leaf. Ch 1, then fasten off by cutting a tail to sew with.

Stem

In brown yarn, ch 4. Slp st down ch, then fasten off, leaving a long tail to sew with.

Assembly

Attach stem to center of MR round. Attach leaf alongside. Weave in all tails.

Complete!

As always, thanks for tuning in. If you haven’t already checked out my YouTube page, I’d be forever grateful if you’d consider subscribing or watching my other tutorial videos. I try to post twice a month with a new tutorial!

Normal, obligatory legal banter:

Please, if you’d like to share this pattern, link folks directly to this blog page, or to the video on YouTube. I work really hard on my patterns and post them for free – please don’t copy my stuff and sell it as your own pattern! You can make and sell this pattern – and while I would love a mention on the listing or a link back to my blog, it’s not a requirement.

Have an Instagram and want to post your new make? Tag me (@pixeledpeach) so I can see and promote your page!
