Howdy folks! I feel like I write more patterns and feel more creative around spooky season – so I’m back again with another freebie for y’all. Behold, a boy!
Ditto is easily top ten on my list of favorite Pokemon. I love his vacant smile – I’m pretty sure if you could read a Ditto’s mind, all you’d hear is elevator music.
Alright, let’s get this bread!
With 4.25mm hook and pink yarn, ML 6
R1: inc in each st (12)
R2: *sc, inc* around (18)
R3: *2sc, inc* around (24)
R4-5: sc around (2 rows total)
R6: *3sc, inc* around (30)
R7: sc around (1 row total)
R8: *4sc, inc* around (36)
R9-13: sc around (5 rows total)
R14: *4sc, dec* (30)
R15: *3sc, dec* (24)
R16: *2sc, dec* (18)
R17: *sc, dec* (12)
We’re going to add the safety eyes and embroider the mouth on next. The eyes go on between R7 & R8, about 6 stitches apart. To embroider the mouth, run a straight stitch from one eye to the other in the space between R7 & R8. I like to start and end the smile just a little inside row 7, so it slightly curves upward.
Next, add stuffing. He needs to be stuffed pretty firmly, but he’s also kind of flat. Once you add the fluff, flatten him out a little.
R18: dec in all sts (6)
Finish with a slp st and then cut a loooong tail! Sew through each of the remaining 6 stitches and pull tight to cinch closed. Tie a knot, but leave the needle threaded. We’ll be using it to add the shape to Ditto!
First, we’ll add the head shape. Send the yarn up through the body to the top of the head (around R4-R5 – see GIF), then sew a long stitch from front to back. Pull tight so it adds a crease to the top of his head. You’ll do that twice to get the right shape – I also push down a little with my fingers to help the shape along!
Now we’ll add the bottom creases. Send the yarn to the bottom of the body. Just like before, send a long stitch from back to front and pull tight – you’ll only need to use one stitch on the bottom of the body. We’ll do this twice, making three little “blobs” at the bottom of the body.
Arms – make 2!
Still with 4.25mm hook and pink yarn, ML 6
R1-2: sc around (2 rows total!)
Slp st to close, but keep a long tail for sewing! We don’t need to stuff either of the arms. Attach the arms to either side of the body, even with the eyes. Once attached, tie a knot and weave in the ends.
Now you have your own Ditto! I would love to see him – tag me on Instagram @pixeledpeach so I can see yours!
